 Ostrich Egg

Even though we live in cities today, we all struggle with spiders and flies in our homes. And if we do not clean our room for a while, there will be a lot of spider webs in the corners.

So, how could it be that there were no spiders in huge mosques and churches for hundreds of years? This was not because of their spiritual characteristics. How could spiders be fought in these hard-to-reach structures with very high ceilings and walls? The answer is the “ostrich egg”. The non-disturbing odor emitted by the emptied ostrich eggs disturbs spiders and insects, thus preventing them from being indoors. For this reason, a sufficient amount of ostrich eggs turned into an ornamental element and took place in these structures. This tradition is still maintained with the completion of the deficiencies in the repairs of historical buildings.

Today, instead of periodic spraying, periodic maintenance with electronic systems, or solutions that require infrastructure, as in the case of fighting spiders and insects, solutions with the simplicity of “ostrich eggs” are perhaps always there.

What else does this very unexpected solution actually mean to us? Sometimes the answers we seek for some problems may not be very complex. While solving a problem, we may need to find our own “ostrich egg” solution.
